Smoke Alarms – Save Lives
Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service
Smoke Alarm Fire Education Roadshow (SAFER)
Did you know that last month alone, Lancashire Fire Service rescued 23 people from house fires and sadly 6 people lost their lives?
Between 11:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. this Saturday, 21st January all Lancashire Fire Stations will be open to the public for people to collect a free 10 year smoke alarm and fire safety guidance, as well as being able to book a free Home Fire Safety Check. This is where fire service staff visit your home to provide detailed fire safety advice, help you work out an escape plan for your property and fit a smoke alarm.
Every available member of Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service will be involved on Saturday – taking the message into communities at shopping centres, football grounds and other community venues, as well as at the Fire Stations. Details of where fire service staff will be can be found on the website www.lancsfirerescue.org.uk or on the facebook page of the Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service. If people are unable to attend on Saturday and still wish to get a free smoke alarm, please call 0800 169 1125 or go to the website detailed above.
Primary School Place Reminder
Primary school applications are due in by Sunday, 15th January 2012. If your child attends a Nursery you are still required to complete an application form in order that you are given the school of your choice.
You can apply on-line at www.blackpool.gov.uk/schooladmissions.
You can also apply on a paper application form which can be obtained from school or from the School Admissions Team at Children, Adults and Family Services, Progress House, Clifton Rd, Blackpool, FY4 4US. The form should be returned directly to the Schools Admission Team at the above address and not to us here at school.
Christmas Nativity
The Christmas performances of ‘Born in a Barn’ and ‘The Rhyming Nativity’ were a great success and thoroughly enjoyed by all. It was wonderful to see so many parents, grandparents and friends supporting these events. I was so impressed with how talented and confident the children were in their performances.
Well done children I am very proud of you all!
Polish Family Community Group
The group provides activities for children, including arts and crafts, singing and learning to read and write in Polish. It is a great way for children and their families to meet new friends and spend quality time together. Simply go along and enjoy the fun,
Central Library on Saturdays 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Traffic Lights
Work is due to commence to upgrade the traffic signals at the junction of Common Edge Rd, Highfield Rd and Hawes Side Lane. This will cause severe disruption to both vehicles and pedestrians and you are asked to find an alternative route to school, if possible. Weather permitting the work should be completed by the end of January.
Please note that whilst the work is in progress, the existing facilities for pedestrians (red and green man crossing signals) will be severely reduced and, at some stage of the work, the whole junction will be switched off for short periods of time. I urge you to be extra vigilant.
Nominee for Heroes in the Community Award
Special congratulations also must go to a Marton Primary School girl in class: Y5/6A who has been shortlisted to the final 3 for the Radio Wave’s Heroes in the Community Award. She has for many years been fundraising for good causes and I am delighted that her hard work and dedication to helping others has been recognised at such a prestigious awards event.
I am sure you will all join me in wishing her every success at the awards ceremony next week.
I feel very proud of her achievements. Well done!
Outstanding Sporting Achievement Award
We are thrilled to inform you that a Marton Year 6 child has received the Lancashire Outstanding Sporting Achievement Award.
Earlier this year, he was invited to attend a number of special selection day events aimed at identifying children who show exceptional skills and talents in a variety of sports. Children who are successful are then fast tracked into specialist training centres to coach and prepare them for possible selection for the 2016 and 2020 Olympic and Paralympic teams.
Being recognised for outstanding achievements in one field of sport is a great accomplishment. However, he has been recognised not for one but for three areas of sporting achievement and has been fast tracked into regional development squads for three sports swimming, athletics and football!
I am sure you will all join me in offering congratulations to our Year 6 boy for this magnificent achievement.
I feel so very proud of him and look forward to hearing of all his future sporting successes.
